Infinity pyRevit Extension

The first thing built for Infinity, and still what their team uses every day. A toolkit covering the awkward parts of documenting water supply and drainage systems: annotating pipe runs, drawing risers, and selecting what Revit makes hard to select.

Built as a pyRevit extension because it puts a working tool in someone's hands in days rather than weeks. Several of these have since earned a permanent place in the Infinity Tools add-in.

Why drainage documentation in Revit was slow

Documenting water supply and drainage systems is repetitive in ways Revit does not help with. Hundreds of tags and elevation marks placed one at a time, and placed again whenever a run moves. Creating sections for each pipe is a multi step process. Networks picked apart element by element because Revit will not select a branch as one thing.

None of it is difficult. All of it is slow, and all of it has to be redone every time the model changes.

Rule-based pipe tags and elevation marks

Place Tags

Not a "tag everything" button. The office defines which pipes get which tag and where it sits; the tool applies that across a number of views in one pass, consistently, at any drawing scale, skipping anything already tagged. Foul and stormwater get their own treatment without anyone separating them by hand.

Place Elevations

The same for elevation marks, with the control elevations need: rules per pipe diameter, per level, marking the start of a run or its end, reading the top or the bottom.

Inspection Openings

Pick a riser, tick the levels that need one, choose the fitting and which way it faces. The riser is opened and the fittings placed, with the pipe's own properties carried onto the new segments rather than lost to type defaults.

Drawing and connecting pipe runs

Draw Pipe and Draw Pipe Lines

Lay out runs from geometry already in the model instead of clicking along by eye. Clear Lines clears the helper geometry away afterwards in one go, so it can be scattered freely while working.

Connect Verticals

Reconnects vertical runs that Revit leaves disconnected after elements are copied.

Pipe selection and editing utilities

ToolWhat it does
AlignAligns pipes onto a reference pipe's centreline, and will not touch anything in a link.
SectionA temporary section through any curve-based element, with configurable clearances. It clears itself away, so the browser is not left with forty of them.
SwapFlips a fitting between its negative and positive bend families.
Select BranchFrom one pipe, selects the whole branch it belongs to, nested sub-components included.
Add NestedAdds nested sub-components to the current selection.
Select Model OnlyNarrows a selection to model elements only.
